Lost and Found is an example of Mendel’s gradual creative process. He lays down paint, makes marks, and inserts different figures spontaneously before having a clear idea of the overall conception of the painting. Despite uninspired moments in the creative process, he later returns to the painting to find a way to unite all the elements of the composition. Once the ‘dots were connected,’ an expressive landscape inspired by street art emerged on the canvas.
Evan Mendel is a painter, muralist, and street artist, who pushes the boundaries of figurative art by experimenting with different modes of abstraction.
