Mythological Fairy. 2020
Size: 48.0 x 33.0 cm
Limited edition set. Edition of 25.
This was one of the first works Arzola created during the Coronavirus lockdown in 2020, as well as the first work in his recent series Carnal Deities. It was inspired by a passage from Mitch Walker’s book Visionary love. Walker, a gay activist, was one of the founders of the Radical Faeries in the late 1970s – a counter-culture movement seeking to redefine queer consciousness through spirituality. Arzola conceives a mythological deity that carries Venus, a planet associated with love, as well as a butterfly that symbolizes transformation.
Daniel Arzola is known for his bold and colorful illustrations, which represent a combination of his art and activism.
