This work, personal in nature, deals with mental health struggles. It reflected the artist’s state during a depressive episode that resulted from heartbreak. The portrait encompasses the layers of emotions that were too complex for Arzola to put into words and thus found a visual expression. The figure pierced by a crescent moon, represents human fragility which can hold both strength and beauty. By channeling heartbreak into creative energy, the artist reaffirms the strength often found through pain and struggle.
Daniel Arzola is known for his bold and colorful illustrations, which represent a combination of his art and activism.
